The next OS release ([[Task:Maemo roadmap/Fremantle|Fremantle]]) will require a variety of hardware features and capabilities which are not available on N8x0 devices. However, [[Mer]] is being created (with the help of Nokia) as an upgrade path for current device owners that will bring as many Fremantle technologies and features to existing devices as possible.
