(BTW, you probably know this already, but that glorious "remote keyboard" they've got is a wired keyboard. It supports a wire more than a kilometer in length, so I guess it can be "remote" in that sense...) The IR remotes I can see appear to be fairly standard TV-style remote controls, with perhaps some buttons remapped to do specialized tasks; I suspect you could fit a lot of them into Pierogi's current "universal" idiom. I don't have a unit handy but I am thinking with your macros panel I could move around the menus quickly when installing one.
