* It's been suggested by a friend that I (we) obtain a [http://www.visitberlin.de/welcomecard/index.php?lang=en Berlin WelcomeCard]. It lets you right the U-bahn, the S-bahn, the buses, and the streetcars. You can get 2-day and 3-day versions. The 3-day is currently 21.50 €. You can buy them online, in advance. --[[User:timsamoff|timsamoff]] 02:22, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

Revision as of 14:01, 22 July 2008

  • I just saw ryanair offers free flights from Stansted to Berlin on the dates of the Summit (September 18th to September 20th). Only taxes apply, so it's only £20 to go back and forth by plane. From what I recalled, flights were 6AM on friday, 9PM on sunday, but their website just went blank, so I can't check it again. I'll try to see if it also works from other places. I don't know what you kind of discounts you get, but this might be interesting to look into. I'll check again when the website's back up --crashanddie 11:51, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
It would appear bookings have to be made before Monday July 7th in order to get the £20 round-trip to Berlin. List of different cities that would appear to serve the Berlin airport, and can use this offer are: Stockholm (Skavsta), Frankfurt (Hahn), London (Stansted), Dublin, Milan (Orio al Serio) and East Midlands. --crashanddie 14:40, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
  • Euroflights gives information on the various airlines which fly into/out-of Berlin --Jaffa 19:58, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
edreams can give Europe wide fare information, as well - it seems. --Jaffa 20:28, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

I'll be taking an easyjet flight instead of the proposed one from the travel agency. For example the travel agency quote 323.99 € and easyjet do it for 118 € (admittedly to a different airport 20km away) that needs a short train journey. Worth checking first. baloo 22:18, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

Pieces of advice based on my experience (based on forum post):

  • If you have the time and courage you can hitchhike in Germany. Trucks easily take you aboard for a long route. Here is a hitchhike wiki. You can find other hitchhikers on hitchhikers.org.
  • Consider to book a train ticket in advance at Deutsche Bahn this can save you up to 75% (if booked 2 weeks in advance) of the regular price. The 'dauer' deal provides 50% if booked 1 week in advance. Beware! Limited seats available!
  • Consider a hostel, if you know a friend don't hesitate to ask for a stay, and the public transport in Berlin is cheap and fast as expected in a capital. Berlin WelcomeCard

It's been suggested by a friend that I (we) obtain a Berlin WelcomeCard. It lets you right the U-bahn, the S-bahn, the buses, and the streetcars. You can get 2-day and 3-day versions. The 3-day is currently 21.50 €. You can buy them online, in advance. --timsamoff 02:22, 22 July 2008 (UTC)
