If we have it ''after'' OSiM World, like last time, there is a better chance of getting people from OSiM World coming to the Summit to check it out, just like the 2008 summit. Also in Amsterdam's favour, Amsterdam is the cheapest city in continental Europe to fly into from many places in North America. --[[User:qole|qole]] 22:35, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

Also, expect visa problems for everybody whose country has no visa waiver program with the US.

This location may cost money in the short term, but this would certainly make money in the long.  The US is a big market for these devices, and generally unseen, and untold means--unsold.

This is a suggestion since there are lots of embedded / mobile phone people in the Nordics, what with Ericsson, Nokia, Trolltech, etc.

Location Proposals

Asturias (Spain)

by jsmanrique What about Gijon or Oviedo in Spain?

Ok, ok, perhaps they are not the biggest cities in Spain, but the regional opensource community/LUG (AsturLiNUX) is celebrating its 10th years and they would help on everything. Since 2000 we have been spreading opensource in embedded devices, and lately Maemo. We have also created a community about "open mobile" (OMAG), and we are working on a Spanish Gnome meeting (with some talks dedicated to Maemo too). So, I think that Maemo Summit would be a "great end" for 2009.

Despite that, there are other organizations (public and private) interested on managing and supporting an event like this. Places:

Amsterdam (Netherlands)

OSiM World will be organized in Amsterdam between 15th and 18th september. --Andrea Grandi 10:19, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

If we have it after OSiM World, like last time, there is a better chance of getting people from OSiM World coming to the Summit to check it out, just like the 2008 summit. Also in Amsterdam's favour, Amsterdam is the cheapest city in continental Europe to fly into from many places in North America. --qole 22:35, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

Vierhouten (Netherlands)

HAR 2009 (Hacking At Random) will be organized between 13th and 16th August. You can find more informations here: https://har2009.org.--Andrea Grandi 12:28, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

Portland (Oregon, USA)

LinuxCon is in Portland, Oregon, from Sept 21st to Sept 23th.

I don't think we are prepared for organizing an event in the USA this year having the key contributors (many of them in Europe, including the huge majority of the Maemo SW team). Specially difficult in these times of budget optimizations.--qgil 07:44, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

Also, expect visa problems for everybody whose country has no visa waiver program with the US.

VISA? Just for staying 4-5 days?! OMG :( --Andrea Grandi 13:05, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

This location may cost money in the short term, but this would certainly make money in the long. The US is a big market for these devices, and generally unseen, and untold means--unsold.

Berlin and c-base again

As commented in the maemo-community thread. We would need to look closer at the price of moving away from a co-located event and the risk of not getting enough infrastructure to handle a bigger attendance.--qgil 07:46, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

If choosing another location we (the community / Nokia) have to pay lots of money to pay the place... well, I agree with C-base too.--Andrea Grandi 10:20, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

Scandinavia

This is my suggestion since there are lots of embedded / mobile phone people in the Nordics, what with Ericsson, Nokia, Trolltech, etc.
