Proposal

In reference to maemo.org Community page.

  • Write better intro description.
  • Improve content by describing each of the items available to the maemo.org community (items being those things in the right sidebar -- and maybe more).
  • Provide useful links to resources for first-time community members.
I will take this on. --timsamoff 12:55, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
Thanks! Please create Task:Improving maemo.org/community and put reciprocal links to the bug report Add RSS feeds to community portal that Dave and Ferenc agreed to work on. I also have some ideas and it will be easier to write them down once you start with a first proposal.--qgil 18:58, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
  • I'll most likely have to add some info pertaining to the new features that Henri Bergius has been working on (e.g., Maemo Forums, etc.), but I don't have the time to research right now.

Where to get dynamic content from

The community is dynamic and so could be the Community page. Potential sources of dynamic content:

Quim, starting to get time to work on this -- hopefully some this weekend, and then more Monday... Wondering: These are great ideas, but wouldn't they be more appropriate on the main maemo.org page? I was thinking that this would be more of a community info/howto, but using it as a community portal works too. I just need to know what you're thinking so I don't do any unecessary work. --timsamoff 12:05, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
I'm not saying that all this *is* the content of the section. I was just thinking out loud the potential sources. That info&howto also needs to be there, and very prominent. All this + News + Pearl is too much for a home open to new visitors. The Community section assumes a default visitor more interested in the day to day of the community. A couple of these could go to the home though. Perhaps one day we have customizable homes for registered users and people can just select what they want... The basic info about the community needs to be clear in the section too, but make everything static when the community is vibrant is kind of a contradiction.--qgil 19:49, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

Proposals for displaying dynamic content

With the understanding that the maemo.org design/layout will soon change, propose possible ways to deliver dynamic content in an uncluttered manner...

Layout Proposal #1

  • Main page (textual) content on the left
  • All aggregated content on the right (number of tabs shown here could be reduced or expanded depending on amount of data that needed to be accessed from this page)
    • As aggregated content loads in each tab, a cycling progress indicator alert user to status
