- | Missing chars (weird squares) and other problems are a result of flashing eMMC and not flashing rootfs after that. It's been explained several times over there on the main page. You either MUST NOT BOOT after flashing rootfs/COMBINED before flashing eMMC/VANILLA, or you flash rootfs AFTER eMMC (the foolproof method) (where you shut down the device by removing the battery and "starting" it with the u key pressed and the eMMC loaded to be installed) - you can have fix the problem by simply flashing rootfs when you seen those weird squares instead of chars.
