[edit] User Reactions
John Bloom recently attended Linux Fest Northwest and gathered some reactions of different people to Mer. What do people want to know when they hear about Mer?
Depends on their background and circumstances:
- People who don't use linux on their desktops were sometimes interested in using Mer on their phones. Mostly they were interested in the possibility of having mer on their current phones to play around with, rather than buying a new phone with mer.
- Linux users with the G1 and iPhone were usually quite interested in the possibility of running Mer on their devices, especially in a dual-boot situation where they could revert to their phone's normal OS as required.
- People who went with netbooks for a portable device are somewhat interested in a very light distro targetted for the small screen that is focused around email and browsing.
- People with N8x0 devices tend to fall into two camps: those who use 3rd party software (extras, maemo-mapper, etc) are definitely interested in Mer. There were also people who only use Nokia's included software; those people don't have much interest in Mer, probably since they treat the device as a finished product already, not an evolving ecosystem.
