Open up a file for viewing and editing:

# vi myfile.txt

Exit from vi: type ESC:q!, that's ESC, colon, q and an exclamation mark.

Edit the opened file: press 'i'. In this mode you are able to make changes to the file.

To save changes type: ESC:w, that's ESC, colon, w.

To save changes and quit: ESC:wq
