This is *really* old, and probably obsolete. Is it worth keeping it or rework heavily? Probably nobody would miss it if deleted... --qgil 21:54, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Sets of questions

This post http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=34061 had a lot of good questions. Are they all covered?

Moved from Talk:N900 FAQ

I propose including this in just a FAQ, rather than having a separate N900 page. --Dave Neary 18:32, 4 November 2009 (UTC)

I have no huge problem with that idea. I have 3 concerns though:

  • The FAQ was conceptualized as separate because the device is uniquely what is bringing many people to the site with specific N900-related questions (some of which are maemo-related, I grant)
  • The regular FAQ could be intimidating to new users who are uninterested in the minutiae of development, for instance - with the best will in the world, at present, 'how do I get root access' is not something your new N900 owner or prospective owner would give a monkey's about, if I may be frank.
  • Putting this into the regular FAQ might be a bit of overkill (there's a lot here that is really rather specific)

To address these, it's necessary to revamp the FAQ page as is radically. e.g. with questions at top, compartmentalized, and linked to a set of answers either below or perhaps on different page(s) - there is a reason for this, btw - pages that are too long are not friendly, load slowly, and are frustrating on small screens.

I digress. Let's talk

Developer & user FAQs

Steve: I have proposed 2 FAQs in the wiki gardeners page - one for a developer FAQ and one for a user FAQ - we already have about 7 different pages which are candidates for merges into one or the other:

For developers:

For users & power users:

I think it would be good to simplify both the maintenance and the navigation for users by avoiding duplication of information and possible conflicting information and have all of these be in the one place, with clear & good headings & navigation.

FAQ structure

Dave

I think that structure is an excellent one, and I'd be delighted to see some of (all of?) the N900FAQ embedded within where it makes sense. I'd also be delighted to help out in the editing if you think that it's possible/sensible.

To clarify - the structure I refer it is Developer_FAQ and USER-FAQ... I thin the N900 thing has bits of both in it, but it's mostly user.

As an aside, in my head I can also see a graduated structure to the FAQ, with simple Q's leading to more complex ones in some clever way I haven't managed to make clear to myself yet! (but perhaps simply by their order in the list)

Idea on FAQ

Dave (and anyone listening)

Putting together idea for the user faq. Take a look at http://wiki.maemo.org/User:Smarsh/Ideas/FAQIdea and let me know if it's worth continuing with...?
