Help with the program
I'm happy having the role of benevolent dictator for the schedule on Friday 19: I organize the sessions submitted and if someone finds a bug or an improvement just complain and we'll find a solution. However, I really don't want to organize the sessions on Saturday 20, which is purely a maemo.org community day. Can you please find either another dictator or a system to get that sorted out yourselves? I'm asking for a coordinator at Maemo_Summit_2008/Organization#Program. Thanks!--qgil 09:45, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
Also, could someone draw nice tables for the schedules? I want to do this since.. but there is always something else taking the time. In principle each day needs a table with 3 columns (3 tracks), being some sessions single cells spanning through the whole row (no tracks, just one session at a time, or breaks). Appreciated. --qgil 09:45, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
Saturday Coordinator ~ Eric Warnke Feel free to contact me directly or put your ideas here. I will distill them and be the buffer for Nokia that day. brontide 14:32, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
Lightning sessions
These are really brief sessions of 5 minutes approx i.e. demos. You can propose your own session listing it directly in the schedule once you have confirmed your trip to Berlin. If we get many proposals we will have a second round of lightning sessions on Saturday. Lightning sessions are cool!
We are open to submissions in the form of decent quality videos, to be shown to the audience and uploaded in maemo.org as part of the video materials of the Summit.
- I've see that there is a session about maemo packaging for extras, so i would talk of a tool recently available nammed py2deb, that enable onboard developper to make debian source package directly on a NIT that can be builded by autobuilder, but i m not sure yet i can come, so maybe someone else is interesting by this tool and maybe present it for me. As i use this tool for mcalendar, home widget, and other things, i think other onboard dev could be interested.-khertan 10:17, 28 July 2008 (GMT+2)
- I'd like to present Intranet search (extended desktop search) from maemo with libferris (http://www.libferris.com/). This would be a quick overview of what is available now and where I'm heading with it. -- Monkeyiq July 19.
- Now you can list it yourself.--qgil 18:52, 20 July 2008 (UTC)
- We would like to demonstrate and talk about WorldTV99 (http://maemo.org/downloads/product/OS2008/worldtv99/) [bunanson and koos Vriezen] 09.16 16 July 2008 (BST).
- Now you can list it yourself.--qgil 18:52, 20 July 2008 (UTC)
- I don't know if 5 minutes would be enough, but I would like to talk about Rich UIs and the importance of being different and showing the potential of the platform to "Transform" itself in different products, focused in one main use: like our projects: Canola (media player) Carman (onboard computer + car media) and others like remote controls, etc. The real goal is to show why is really needed that some applications "break" the rules and extend the experience showing the power of openness. (this can be a full talk if of interest)
- 20 seconds are enough for a great ad, 3:30 are enough for a great videoclip and 5:00 are enough for a great lightning session. :) Find a title and... a name for yourself (are you Marcelo?) Then on Saturday you could organize a full session.--qgil 08:30, 20 July 2008 (UTC)
- Now you can list it yourself.--qgil 18:52, 20 July 2008 (UTC)
- I would like to present Illumination, an alternative GUI library, which is used by my applications. 5 minutes is a start (I'm a fast speaker ;-)), but around 20 minutes would be better. Take 5 minutes on friday or can I get 20 minutes on saturday? I could also speak a little bit of my problems porting a non-Gtk based GUI library (togetehr with some hints towards existing APIs). What about that (5 minutes would be not enough again I fear)?--framstag 15:29, 20 July 2008 (UTC)
- Now you can list it yourself.--qgil 18:52, 20 July 2008 (UTC)
- I ( Gustavo Barbieri) got delayed due some personal problems and will just arrive in Berlin/Tegel by 2:10pm of 19th, after the lightning talks are over, may I remove my entry or someone else (qgil?) has to do it?
- Go ahead and remove it yourself. Can you move your session to anywhere else in the schedule? --timsamoff 13:49, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
- Qgil maybe another 30 minute lightning session right before we end for the day? ( assuming we have the interest from others to present ) brontide 13:54, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
- timsamoff: brontide just did that for me. As for presenting later, of course I can, let's see if we can get another lightning sessions.
- If we get more lightning sessions we can have another round, although better on Saturday. They are good to break the routine.--qgil 18:29, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
- I ( Nikos Tsourakis) want to demonstrate a multilingual multimodal medical translation sytem, which is deployed on the Nokia's N800 device. My application uses state of the art protocols for distributed speech recognition and innovative methods for machine translation. I think 5 minutes is enough for an eye catching presentation. More info can be found at: http://www.issco.unige.ch/staff/tsourakis/medSLT-site/demos.html
- Are you booked for the conference? brontide 21:36, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
- I (jsmanrique) would like talking about elisator project and how Easy library has helped and how could be improved. Elisator has been developed for cow's milk analisys and it has been funded by FAO.--jsmanrique 14:25, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
Saturday 20th
List below your proposals for activities. They are thought to be highly participative i.e. discussion about an area of the platform, workshops, etc. I have promoted many proposals onto the main page. If you need longer than a half an hour slot then let me know.
- Your proposal here
Comments on the current agenda
- Proposal for some changes in the morning: 9:30 100Days - 10:00 Community council - 10:30 Future of extras (only, the other 2 sessions about packaging go to the afternoon) - 11:00 We are not users - 11:30 Lightning - 12:00 break until 12:30 and then 3 tracks until the last wrap up session in the big room.
- 1h break for lunch at 14h like the previous day.--qgil 20:21, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
- The 3 tracks could be organized more or less like this: one for hardcore/platform development (e.g. DSP), one for average application developers (eg. the packaging stuff) and one with topics accessible for non-developers (e.g. UI guide) + the Talk:Maemo_Summit_2008#Introduction_to_Maemo_hacking.3F that still needs to be scheduled. There will be anyway overlaps and difficult decisions, but at least this will favour less nomadism between spaces all the time, and someone lazy could stay in the same room if the previous topic was in target.--qgil 20:21, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
- What about changing Maemo Community 2009 for 2010 Agenda? This will need a lot of input and work from the community to be something really pushed not only by Nokia with its community hat. In mid September 2009 is around the corner anyway, it's not mid term view anymore. --qgil 20:21, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the change but... Now there are 2 sessions about 2010 Agenda? I think the last session on Saturday is enough.--qgil 19:57, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

Community
I've got some ideas to allow people attending at Maemo Summit to communicate better. If you have any other idea, please write/discuss here. --Andrea Grandi 10:35, 20 July 2008 (UTC)
- Prepare a sort of "badge". A simple card with these informations:
- Name (nickname)
- What we do in our life (Developer/Student/Blogger/ecc...)
- Spoken languages: we could print a flag for each language we speak
- Prepare a custom Google map with all the hot points in Berlin: c-base, OSiM, all hotels we booked ecc...
- Create POI's for these place to use on Map software in our tablets
Introduction to Maemo hacking?
Keywan says in maemo-developers: "are there plans for a workshop or introduction for newcomers in the development for Maemo? What do you think about this idea? Is there anybody who would like to do this as a "speaker"? And are there other potential participants like me?
- Good idea, the question being: when? What is the right duration for this workshop and where could it fit in the agenda. One idea would be to have it on 2-3h on Saturday while the rest of running sessions are really hardcore developer or community wise.--qgil 07:06, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
Lightning *idea* sessions
Iván had a great idea today at lunch. What about a round of lightning sessions about ideas. You don't need to be a developer. In fact, it would be good that you are not a developer. But you have a great idea, and you present it brilliantly through text, a sketch, a presentation... In the audience you have a wide collection of power users and developers. Perhaps you find more feedback, improvements, the perfect match? The presentations are available online, next to a feedback channel. The discussion continues there. Perhaps something real will come out of that.--qgil 09:48, 29 July 2008 (UTC) (on behalf of Iván)
- When, though? The agenda onf Friday is already intense but... I think a refreshing session like this can be placed at 18h onwards. Right before the end, when you can catch the proposer of the idea and continue the discussion.--qgil 09:48, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
- I am agree that at 18:00 on Friday could be good timetable for this.--jsmanrique
- Nice blog post from Iván. It got rapidly to the top news in maemo.org. I'll take that as a community YES. :)
