writing maemo.org content
This page is a DRAFT being discussed in the maemo-community list.
All Maemo contributors are invited to contribute in the improvement of maemo.org content. Here we explain how to get editing rights and work on the basic stuff.
Contents |
[edit] Blogs & Garage news
If you want to blog about your Maemo related work you can get your own blog aggregated to Planet Maemo. If you have a Garage project you are encouraged to report the novelties through the News tool.
[edit] Events
(Instructions for publishing events are missing)
The events can be:
- Maemo-centric activities: training courses, workshops, meet-ups, summits...
- Events with Maemo activities in the agenda: talks, BOFs, demos...
- Open project meetings count as well, also online and/or around garage projects.
[edit] Downloadable software
(Instructions for publishing and updating pages at Downloads are missing)
[edit] Job offers
If you have job offers and are expecting to have them more than once, you can request access to the jobs section editor by sending a mail to jobs @ maemo.
New jobs can be created by clicking in the floating bar on Folder->Create Article while in the jobs section.
Please make sure you follow the same style as other job offers, so we get a uniform look.
[edit] Announcements and static pages
As opposed to this wiki, you need to obtain editing permissions in order to write and edit pages in the main site. Before requesting permissions you should have gained a (good) reputation as a writer in this wiki, the News section, Internet Tablet Talk... or anywhere else we can go and check.
In the meantime you can work on any texts using this wiki and contacting the editors in the maemo-community list for proposals, text changes or new pages.
[edit] Account and permissions
When you think it's the time do the following:
- Get a maemo account (aka "garage account") if you don't have it already. Make sure the email address used is @nokia.com.
- Edit your profile introducing yourself. Feel free adding more information. Your profile might be linked from the announcements and comments you publish, that's why. An avatar is also recommended.
- Request to join the webeditors group.
Done? Now you can start editing.
- Question to Midgard maintainers: now all editors get full access to everything. Would it be possible to grant access only to certain sections?--qgil 10:28, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
- This can be done by making different groups for different tasks and giving rights to a different group on each folder. --85.147.201.170 13:15, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Announcements
You are encouraged to publish maemo.org announcements s when they are relevant to the community. The recommended step-by-step process is:

- Write your announcement and publish. It will go live immediately, in the maemo.org homepage and the Announcements section.
[edit] Basic editing
- Login, go to the page you want to edit and select Page->Edit in the floating bar.
- Documentation pages deal directly with pure HTML.
- Announcements and other static pages have a WYSIWYG editor with a toolbar with the typical features: bold, italics, links, insert image...
See the Advanced section below if you need more.
[edit] Create a public document
- Login to maemo.org.
- Create the document in correct folder with Folder->Create Article. Enter a meaningful title and content. Press Save when you are done.

- Create the document as described above.
- Hide the document by changing permissions.
* Go to Page->Manage Object. * Choose Permissions * Add group webeditors members. Choose Allow for Owner. * Add group Everyone. Choose Deny for Read. * Click Save.
