The tablets come equipped with a versatile USB port that will allow you to connect your tablet to your computer for flashing the tablet or mounting the memory cards, allow you to connect USB peripherals to your tablet, and allow you to set up USB networking.
Flashing

The primary usage of the USB port is for flashing a new OS image onto the device.
Host mode

The tablets are able to function in either client or host-mode. Host-mode will allow you to use USB peripherals like keyboards, flash drives, card readers, and external hard drives with your tablet. Note: it is announced that N900 cant be used in Host-mode.
Networking

USB networking will allow you to use the tablet's USB port to connect to a computer and network with that computer over USB. This can provide you with an internet connection for your tablet in environments without WiFi access.
