Improving the current layout

What's wrong about the current maemo.org layout?

List issues here:

  • Navigation is a little hard to...navigate.
    • Certain user-centered items should be prevalent and easy to use (e.g., Downloads, News, Documentation).
    • A lot of the subnav stuff (Roadmap, Lists, Bugzilla, SDK, IRC, etc.) could be removed from the main page and placed in a Developer-centric page.
  • As discussed here, should the main page be more of an aggregated community-driven content portal?
  • Many graphical elements are blurry. Is this a post-process issue, or is it inherent in the original artwork?

What works about the current maemo.org layout?

List positive remarks here:

  • Main page News summaries are good.
  • The idea of posting "The Pearl" is good. Should it just be called "maemo.org Download Picks" (or something)?

Proposals for creating a great maemo.org layout.

List proposals here:

  • Rethink focus of maemo.org as a whole: Are Tablets for coders or regular users? (I think the latter.)
  • Why not wikify the entire site? Midgard is great software, but going completely wiki would speak well of "openness."
  • New color in new maemo.org logo should be used.
  • Make it a fluid layout.
  • Make it more ajaxy. Use jQuery or Prototype to create a clean, (or something) snappy UX.
